WORKSHOPS
“Workouts for Musicians”
One Hour Workshop Why should musicians be concerned with exercise or strength training? Beyond the obvious, there are some scary statistics and the most recent research shows up to 93% of musicians can become injured as a direct result of playing their instruments. This basic lecture will cover the statistics and the basics of what you can do prevent injury in yourself and your students. Students of this workshop will have the option to participate in stretches, activation exercises and movement drills.
If you are a school looking to fulfill your NASM accredidation requirements, this workshop fulfills that requirement.
Student limit: 25
"Becoming Music Strong"
Two Hour Workshop/Lecture This comprehensive workshop will go beyond the basics. After covering the scary statistics of why musicians especially need strength training, we will cover the essentials of musician's exercise, finishing with going through an entire workout from start to finish.
Topics to include:
- body awareness training
- basic anatomy as it relates to instrument playing
- most common needful stretches
- activation exercises for most common weak muscles
- integration exercises
- pre and post-practice/performance routines
Student limit: up to 30.
If more students are interested than there is space, additional sessions may be offered in the same weekend to accommodate the numbers interested.
Faculty Appointments
Sometimes you need more than the basics, you need ongoing help. Whether you have a weekend or a week long band or instrumental camp or need someone as a faculty resource on your staff for the university, we can help in a variety of ways. Contact me for specifics and options.
Individual personal training sessions may be added to any lecture or workshop. Training session will be a one-on-one session and will include:
- an individualized movement assessment
- a detailed analysis of your individual muscle imbalances
- a personalized workout that will include: proper form instruction, dynamic warm-ups, and static stretching and resistance training.
A gym is helpful but not necessary as I will bring equipment with me, some of which will be available for purchase. These items are:
- a lacrosse ball (or two)
- a foam roller
- mini band
- resistance bands
- TRX (not available for purchase through me)
You may purchase these items prior to our session and I will leave them with you at the end of our session empowered with the knowledge of how to properly use them!
Training sessions may be purchased through the store. Contact me at angela@musicstrong.com to set up your appointment time at the workshop.
If you would like to continue your training with me after the workshop, I offer training programs online or in person. That way you'll never have to worry about how to build a program, how to make further progress or what is or isn't appropriate for you. No two people are alike, so don't leave it to chance!
A one-hour masterclass (in any instrument, conducting or vocal) may be added on to any lecture or workshop for an additional fee. This masterclass will not necessarily center on instrumental technique but will cover such bases as:
- Increasing body awareness while playing
- Decreasing excess tension
- Getting rid of Self 2 and allowing Self 1 to work (a la "Inner Game of Tennis/Music")
- Finding the culprits of your playing that either contribute to your pain or your potential for future injury
- Playing, singing and conducting more efficiently and effortlessly
- Correcting muscle imbalances
